In Memory

James W. Vockell

JIM VOCKELL

VOCKELL James William, Jr., beloved husband of the late Susan (nee Herrick), loving father of Chris (Anna-Liisa) Vockell, devoted grandfather of Oliver, Anika, Elias, and Isabel Vockell. He was the loving brother of Nancy Price and brother-in-law of Barby (Phil) Schott and Donna Herrick. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends who were like family.

Jim was lifelong friends with his wife, Susan, having met her at an early age as their parents were friends. It wasn’t until high school that they began dating, frequently going out with their best friends Patty and Ray Nulsen. They were married and remained together until Susan’s death in 2001.

He had spent over 30 years working for Kenworth of Cincinnati and had retired only 11 months ago. He coached the Indian Hill High School soccer team for 30 years. His goal was never about making better soccer players but rather making better men.

Jim’s greatest job in life was being a loving and dedicated grandfather / Pop. He rarely missed events with his grandchildren.

Jim passed away in his home on Tuesday, May 16th at the age of 79.

The family is planning a memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life on the morning of Saturday, June 10th at Cincinnati Vineyard Community Church’s chapel. Please check back for specific time.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Jim’s name can be made to either Rising Leaders Cincinnati or Vineyard Cincinnati Church Legacy of Hope to honor the legacy he has created.

I am saddened to hear of Jim's passing. Even in High School he was a true soft spoken gentleman that I liked and respected. He will be missed.  Gil Schulze

So sorry to hear about Jimmy's passing.  Jimmy and I were classmates from our first days at North Avondale School through the sixth grade.  He was always a great athletic and starred on our 4th and 5th grade baseball team when we were able to beat all of the older grades.  What a treat to first beat the 5th graders and then the 6th graders who were so big.  It was always fun when our gang would hang out at Jimmy's house after school.

He will surely be missed.

Jim was very shy in High School.
He played football and
of us gals always had a crush on him.
RIP.

I was a third cousin to Jim. I remember he was good guy,fun ball player    .I believe our grandmothers were sisters. I remember playing with him at park. We didn't hang out much. I know he was easy to get along with.
