In Memory

Robert Moser

Robert Dayman Moser, 77, Captain, U.S. Navy (Retired), passed away on December 17, 2021, after a long battle with lung cancer. He lived a lifetime of loyalty and dedication to his family and his country before passing peacefully at his home in Ashburn, Virginia.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Robert and Eleanor Moser, Bob was a 1966 graduate of the University of Cincinnati where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Wanting to serve his country, he was commissioned as Ensign in April 1967 upon completion of Officer Candidate School. He earned his master's degree in Business Administration from George Washington University.

Bob's life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his country and the United States Navy. Certified in both submarine and surface warfare, his decorated Naval career included many sea duty tours. Bob served as Commander, Destroyer Squadron Twenty, deploying to Desert Shield and then to Desert Storm. Ashore, he served with distinction and retired as Commanding officer of the Fleet Training Center in Norfolk, Virginia.

Bob formed strong bonds with all his shipmates and mentored many. Upon retirement in 1997, he continued his service in the civilian sector developing training programs for the U.S. Navy. Bob was passionate about educating and equipping sailors with the tools necessary to serve their country to the best of their abilities. Bob and his wife, Lois, put down roots wherever they settled, developing friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Bob was an avid gardener and bonsai enthusiast. He loved woodworking and clocks. He had an attention for detail, could fix anything, and instilled an attitude of teamwork in his career and at home. He set an example of loyalty, faithfulness, and integrity.

Bob is survived by Lois, his wife of 55 years, his children, Kelli (Dennis) Knight of Forest, Virginia and Robert (Katy) Moser, Jr. of McLean, Virginia and his four grandchildren, Madelynn Knight, Maegan Knight, Robert (Trip) Moser III, and Wilburn Moser.

Captain Robert Dayman Moser will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery.

Dear Lois,  I am so sorry to hear about Bob.  We had so much fun in highschool.  He was truly one of the good old boys of Kennedy Heights 🎼. Bob is possibly cruising around in heaven in a 33 Chevy 5 window coupe.   RIP my friend.  Susan Kettenacker McNanie

I knew  Bob for many years of school together.  I fondly remember a bus trip we took with Boy Scouts to Piedmont Scout Ranch near Santa Fe, NM.  We all had a great time.  He will be missed, but never forgotten.  Jerry Nagy

I remember Bob as a level-headed guy amid our Kennedy Heights gang.   Many of the guys wore identical fleece-collared blueish fleight jackets.   Bob was friends with Larry Spreckelmeyer, & Bob Marshall.   Maybe Bob also was on our 9th grade football team at Schroeder?  The backfield was Pete Johnston (QB), Bob Marshall (FB), Stan Matthews (RH), and me at Left halfback.   Also on that team:  Dave (Duke) Schneider at center, Ron Ingles, Bobby Richardson, Steve McCollum, maybe Harrison Simms, Ron Tolbert, Bob Jacobs?,  and Alan Berger.   The Lady-Friends I remember were Beth Mitchell (my GF), Karen Horton (B. Marshall's GF), Susan Kattenacker (Larry S's GF), Lynn Wagner (Pete Johnstons GF),  And Bob Moser's eventual wife, Lois Eggerding was around then also - if I remember right.

The football coach at Schroeder in 1959 was Gino Rossi (played pro in Canada), and "Bear" Campbell".  Also the school janitor (can't remember his name - great guy)  practiced with us occasionally.   It was a wonderful year.
